Comms

RTS Telex multi-channel intercom

The beauty of the RTS system is that very simple 2 channel comms systems can be created using just a power supply and some belt-packs, all connected with standard XLR mic cable; or complex multi-channel comm systems can be created using the SAP512 routing unit.

A basic intercom will consist of the RTS PS-20 power supply, a number of RTS BP325 two-channel belt packs, and Beyerdynamic DT108 single-sided headsets. These are all connected together with standard XLR mic cable. Belt-packs can be connected to any of the 4 outputs from the PS20, or can be daisy-chained from belt-pack to belt-pack. The PS-20 power supply also has a program input XLR on the rear, so it can be fed with a show relay feed, or a mixing desk output, to provide show relay into the intercom. Controls on the front of the unit controls whether this goes to channel 1, 2 or both, and at what level. The PS-20 can power 2 intercom channels, with up to 24 belt-packs connected..

A more complex intercom can consist of the RTS PS-31 power supply, the RTS SAP612 source assign panel, BP325 two-channel belt packs, and Beyerdynamic DT108 single-sided headsets These are all connected together with standard XLR mic cable. The PS-31 can power 3 intercom channels, with up to 40 belt-packs connected.

The SAP612 has two program feed inputs and 12 separate intercom outputs. You can choose what channels are available on those outputs. For example, say you want an intercom system with 4 channels: channel 1: DSM & general ring, 2: Stage, 3: Lighting, 4: Sound. You would connect the DSM’s BP325 2-ch belt pack to output 1 of the SAP612, and assign that output to receive channel 1. Stage crew and SM intercom would be on output 2, and they would be set to receive the DSM on channel 1 of their belt packs, and each other on channel 2 of their belt packs. The lighting team would be connected to output 3, and they would be set to receive the DSM on channel 1 of their belt packs, and each other on channel 2. Likewise the sound team would be on output 4, with the DSM on channel 1 and the sound team on channel 2.
