FOH Speakers
Most shows that have opened in the UK since the mid-1990's use either Meyer or d&b speakers. Meyer speakers are now predominantly self-powered (aka active), ie the amp and EQ/limiter circuits are contained within the speaker cabinet (which leads to increased weight) and so is fed by a mains cable and a line-level cable. d&b speakers are all passive, but use proprietary amps with built-in controller electronics. Meyer speakers characteristically have a brighter top end compared to d&b.
d&b speakers
C6‘s, E9’s and C4’s formed the mainstay of the most popular line of speakers. These are being phased out and replaced with E12’s and Q-series speakers.
